Boulder-based Flatirons Food Film Festival Masters Wine With Screening of SOMM3

Boulder-based Flatirons Food Film Festival Masters Wine With Screening of SOMM3

Boulder, Colorado, is ground zero for many of life’s essential aspects, including organic products, beer, and technology. But it is also known as the site for some of the nation’s most revered restaurants (Frasca Food and Wine, Blackbelly, Oak at Fourteenth, Black Cat and The Flagstaff House). Boulder, Colorado also has more Master Sommelier’s per capita calling it home, than New York City. For this reason, it seems appropriate that the annual Flatirons Food Film Festival has chosen to have a rare screening of SOMM 3 tonight at the Canyon Theater. Tonight’s screening will feature a prestigious panel with Master Sommelier’s Dustin Wilson, Bobby Stuckey, and Sabato Sagaria providing their insight.

The original Somm movie gave viewers an inside peek of the struggles and sacrifices that candidates must endure on a quest to pass the test for becoming a Master Sommelier. The second Somm film, “Into The Bottle,” examined wine and it’s culture, focusing less on Sommeliers.

The third film of the SOMM documentary series about the beauty, history, and personal experience of wine revolves around two tastings reminiscent of the 1976 Judgment of Paris.

In New York City, some of the greatest wine tasters of today gather for a blind tasting to determine if the top six pinot noir wines from around the world can match the greatest Burgundies of France. In Paris, three of the greatest legends in wine (Jancis Robinson, Steven Spurrier, Fred Dame) meet to taste exceptional bottles from their careers and discuss how wine intersects with their lives.

The Flatirons Food Film Festival is an annual multi-day feast celebrating exceptional culinary cinema. The events take place in Boulder, Colorado, a city known as the epicenter of the natural foods industry and locus of the American craft brewing renaissance. The festival includes film showings, expert speakers, discussions, art exhibitions, and food and beverage events.
